Iconographic Collection

The importance of collecting images displaying musicians, performance styles and musical instruments was already apparent to the founders of the collection, Paul de Wit and Wilhelm Heyer. A few paintings of the Wit collection have been preserved; the Heyer iconographic collection was not acquired for Leipzig.

The current collection is comprised of approximately 400 pieces, including some rarities, which date from the 16th through the 20th century. The collection is currently being catalogued.
