The museum owns nearly 5000 European and non-European musical instruments, an iconographic collection, as well as a collection of historic sound storage mediums,
including approximately 3500 piano rolls for player pianos and numerous
graphemes. Part of the collection has been recorded in detailed
catalogues, some of which are available online
(see German website). Additionally, numerous audio examples are
available. These recordings document the sound of historic instruments
while providing valuable insights into current knowledge of historic
performance practice.
